Our Doctrine

Simcoe Street Church is a congregation of the United Church of Canada. As such we subscribe to Christian doctrine of the reform tradition. Click on the link to read about our historic faith

We are not a confessional church.

We do not ask our members to confess any particular doctrine other than to declare their faith in God our creator, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour and the Holy Spirit, our teacher and guide.

Our Ministers declare that they are in essential agreement with the doctrine as laid out in the basis of Union as a prerequisite of Ordination or Commissioning.

This means that the United Church is quite likely the freest thinking religious body on the planet! The framework of orthodox reform theology is there to guide and inform, while offering members and affiliates to come to know God in an amazingly diverse range of experience and expression. Whether you come from a deep historic faith based on the ancient creeds or are exploring spirituality as an extension of your own soul, the United Church is the vehicle to carry you through life in respectful community.

Our Values

We care about family and community, individual integrity and honour, respect for the environment and each other.

We take a stand against evil and injustice on both the small scale and in the systems of our world.

We feed the hungry, clothe the naked, advocate for the downtrodden, befriend the lonely, heal the sick and all with a song of praise in our hearts.

And we worship! We pray without ceasing, singing hymns and spiritual songs to God, welcoming any and all into our midst to build up the church of our Lord Jesus Christ!
